VERONICA BARKER

APA Sports & Exercise Physio

Graduating from Lincoln School of Health Sciences in 1990 (Latrobe University Melbourne), Veronica spent many years working in the sporting arena: VFL football, WNBL basketball, National Gymnastics and Triathlon were her main sports coverage.  Post graduate studies in research at Melbourne University led to a passion for implementing the latest clinical research into best clinical practice and therefore getting great results for her patients.  Further sports studies have resulted in acquiring her APA Sports & Exercise Title and the opportunity to Convene the Level 3 Sports Course at the AIS in Canberra for the past 7 years.  Passionate about movement, exercise and sport, Veronica is a very proud Triathlete who represented Australia at the World Championships Sprint Distance in 2018 and loves her Triathlon involvement with the Clarence Valley Tri Club and Swift Multisport.  With her desire to integrate best practice and innovative technology, Veronica is keen to keep you informed, educated and capable of managing your unique body.

Suzanne’s first love was Dance. Having achieved the Royal Academy of Dance levels of Advanced/Solo Seal and graduating with an Associate Diploma of the Arts she embarked on a 5

year professional career dancing in Japan and South Korea.

Her love of movement and the body lead to her second and rewarding career as a Remedial Massage Therapist and Pilates Instructor. She has spent many years working around Australia before settling in the Clarence Valley.

Her massage skills have been expanded to include Manual Lymphatic Drainage and specifically treatment for Lymphoedema as well as Myofascial Cupping Techniques.

Further studies in Pilates over the last 3 years has included Pilates for Scoliosis and the Dancing Athlete.

Suzanne is an APPI Certified Equipment Pilates Instructor and a member of the Australasian Lymphology Association, and Massage Australia.  She completed her Physiotherapy Assistant studies in 2017 and has worked alongside Veronica in this challenging and gratifying role over the last 2 years.

Still having a keen interest in dance, both Suzanne and Veronica completed their Level 1 Ballet Teacher Training with Lisa Howell in Sydney providing further education in Pre-Pointe Assessments. For fitness Suzanne attends adult ballet classes, keeps up her pilates skills and walks a very spoilt Labrador.

MAT CAMERON

ESSA Exercise Physiologist

Mat has been working as an AEP since completing his Post Graduate Diploma of Clinical Exercise Physiology in 2010, but has been heavily involved with sport and exercise from a very young age.

This experience with regular exercise has provided Mat with the insight and passion to be able to provide exercise prescription to a wide range of individuals. The profound effect exercise can have on so many pathologies and conditions is something Mat finds incredibly rewarding about working as an AEP.

Mat has a lot of experience working with both musculoskeletal cases and in chronic disease management, but enjoys the challenge of variety in the clients he treats. Mat has also undertaken further training and is qualified to run diabetic management programs (HEAL and Beat It), out-patient pulmonary rehabilitation programs and is a qualified Pilates instructor.

Mat is currently servicing the Clarence Valley in NSW.

When not working as an AEP, Mat is an avid fisherman and competes in a number of tournaments around Australia each year. He also enjoys kayaking, camping, soccer, oztag, touch football, training in the gym and adventuring with his wife and kids.

JULIE

Yoga Instructor

I have been teaching Yoga since 2003 and am a Senior Level 3 Teacher with Yoga Australia.

When I first started practicing Yoga I had the flexibility of a fence post and the mind of a cheeky monkey that had consumed way too many banana smoothies. And as challenging as it was (and still is!) I loved every bit of it. Because I knew, even when it challenged me on every level and brought up all manner of Samskaras, that this would change my life and I was finally on the path home.

I went to Los Angeles and became a certified Bikram Yoga Teacher in 2003, and quickly followed it by completing Teacher Training at The Yoga Academy of Pune, India in 2004; then MindBodyMoves Yoga for Kids 2005; BodyMindLife Yoga Teacher Training in 2008 ; Sarah Powers Yin Teacher Training 2015; Qi Yoga Restorative Yoga Teacher Training 2015, as well as many workshops and retreats with esteemed teachers from around the world (Mauricio Eberlein, Eion Finn, Eileen Hall, Mark Breadner, Nicole Walsh , Mark O'Brien, Marc St Pierre, Duncan Peak, to name a few).

It is my intention to instill passion, knowledge and lightheartedness into every class, and to provide a safe and supportive environment in which everyone feels great about themselves - healing old injuries, be they physical or otherwise, de-stressing, becoming stronger, healthier and happier.

Michelle has worked and cycled with Veronica for many years in Grafton and for the last 5 years managing the frontdesk team at Velocity Physio.  Her combined love of cycling and organic protein balls (don’t forget coffee!) has led her to new community involvement with the Yamba Cycling Group, Criterium Racing and the occasional Team Triathlon.

Her family values and friendly nurturing personality are an asset to Velocity Physio.  She will welcome you and assist you with your enquiries (and maybe share a gorgeous picture of her grandkids).
